Right before his graduation in June of 2009, Joel rose to national prominence after challenging Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), by asking the question: “How much, if any, responsibility do you have for the financial crisis?” and spurred a heated debate, which became a YouTube and TV sensation. He’s the author of two books, Don’t Tell Me Words Don’t Matter and The Kasrils Affair: Jews and Minority Politics in Post-apartheid South Africa. Joel decided to run for Congress in September 2009 in 9th district of Illinois.
